Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, is a novel written by English author Mary Shelley in collaboration with her future husband Percy Bysshe Shelley and friend Lord Byron whilst on holiday in Geneva. The story about a young student reanimating a corpse as a scientific experiment has become one of the most famous fictions to emerge from the 19th century. The novel took 2 years to complete, with Mary Shelley publishing the first edition of her work anonymously in London at the tender age of twenty in 1818. Frankenstein was a revelation and instantly set the modern standard for science fiction horror. In 1831 Mary Shelley revised the text to a more contemporary standard which is presented in this edition.
